A FUSION OF GENRES
A truly rare piece, this elegant watch beguiles with its incandescent pairing of emeralds and diamonds, as well as its spectacularly complex movement, signed ‘Piaget’. Deep inside Piaget’s High Jewellery workshops, the gifted hands of the Maison’s master jewellers bring to life the most exquisite sets of jewellery. They move seamlessly from a precious watch to a Swinging Sautoir, honouring the skills and tradition of crafting jewellery watches that set Piaget on the path to High Jewellery as early as 1959. However, the workbenches of master gem-setters are not only reserved for jewellery. They are also graced by the signature watch movements that have made the Maison famous.

Among these movements, there is the celebrated 1270D: A decadent reworking of the first automatic tourbillons that drove Polo Emperador watches, such as the 1270P or the skeletonised 1270S. With the 1270D, the devil is in the details. Exquisite details, considering the architecture of this movement, designed from start to finish in La Côte-Aux-Fées’ manufacture, is entirely set with diamonds. On top of the hundred hours already dedicated to setting the movement and the case, forty additional hours are required to hand set the diamonds on the engaging angles and flanks of the tourbillon, which is visible to the naked eye. This step demands extreme precision, so as not to distort its precious materials. This breathtaking work continues right up to the crucial stage of casing up the movement in this unique piece, when their shapes slot perfectly together. The watch dial is taken up by the mesmerising oscillating weight, also set with a shower of trapeze-cut emeralds. One final enchanting detail is the signature letter P on the flying tourbillon that serves to mark the seconds.
Already available in versions set with diamonds, sapphires and now emeralds, this 49 mm-diameter Piaget Polo Emperador Skeleton High Jewellery watch joins the architectural ranks of the Altiplano 910P, offering a stunning new complication to the Maison’s icon, the Piaget Polo. A timepiece that attests to Maison Piaget’s unique history, defined by the perfect marriage of its fine watchmaking and jewellery-making expertise.
